‘Safety Check’ used by Facebook for the first time in US

A gunman has killed 50 people and wounded more than 50 others in a shooting in a night club in Orlando, Florida.

It´s the first time that Facebook uses their “Safety Check” feature I the US. This “Safety Check” is a feature which allows people using Facebook to let their friends on Facebook know that they are safe, when something terrible like this happens.

“Waking up this morning, I was deeply saddened to hear about the shooting in Orlando. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and the LGBT community,” Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said in a post on his official page on Sunday, according to NBC News.

When terrible things happen like i.e. in the wake of attacks like in Paris, Facebook has been criticize of not turning on the “Safety Check”. This has made Facebook pay closer attention to this and they will make sure that “Safety Check” is activated when it´s needed.
